Gas Springs for Hatches
Gas Springs for Hatches
We keep these options for extension range (compressed to extended) and force:
- 5.5″ to 7.5″ x 20lbs
- 7.0″ to 10″ x 20 lbs
- 9.5″ to 15″ x 20 lbs
- 11″ to 17″ x 30 lbs
- 12″ to 20″ x 20,30,40, or 60 lbs
All of these gas springs mount on 10mm ball studs.
We use Sea-Dog Line gas springs for our custom hatch products. The spring is made of hard chromium plated shafts, bronze bushings and polymer end fittings, with a charge of nitrogen gas.
Gas springs are a proven and reliable method of supporting hatches and other items as they open and close. They are ideal for safely lifting and lowering heavy or cumbersome objects.
Lift springs come pre-loaded (pre-pressurized) with a force (P1) equal to the load they can support when the spring is fully extended – as when a storage locker lid or car hatchback is held open. To compress the spring, you need to supply at least the P1 force.
When the lid is closed, the spring is compressed, storing additional force (P2) which is used to assist in lifting the lid the next time it is opened.
Gas-filled lift springs are almost always installed in pairs, and with the rod ends down to lubricate the oil seal and maximize damping.
